YOU Are Building Clean Energy Momentum with SharePower™

Groundswell 2023

It is easy to get caught up in the bad news around the climate crisis. From microplastics to El Niño to Arctic ice melting, it can feel like no action is enough to stem the rising tides and temperatures. However, in the midst of these enormous challenges, it is important to take a moment to look at what we can do and appreciate what has been accomplished so far.

The hole in the ozone is shrinking. More than 4.1 million people are employed in climate jobs in the U.S. Meanwhile, historic action is being taken under the Inflation Reduction Act, including incentives for individuals hoping to make climate-conscious decisions.

Additionally, numerous actions are being taken at the local level. Your SharePower subscription is making a difference locally, while making a case for similar programs across the country. So far, thanks to SharePower subscribers like you, more than 1,123 metric tons of pounds of carbon dioxide pollution have been prevented, and that number is only growing. Your participation also demonstrates the demand for community solar to local leaders.

During a community solar celebration last month, White House officials celebrated the impact of community solar projects and the subscribers who make them possible.

“This is what solving the climate crisis looks like,” said Ali Zaidi, Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor. “Taking on the climate crisis is not a story of gloom and doom. President Biden has been clear from day one that it is a story of hope and possibilities — an opportunity for us to cut bills for consumers, an opportunity for us to revitalize communities, an opportunity for us to oversee the first renaissance in American manufacturing that we’ve seen in decades.”

Making sure that everyone can access clean energy is a big part of making that solution possible. Thanks to the support of SharePower subscribers like you, community solar is available to both renters and homeowners in your community. The inclusion of renters is a big deal since 64% of housing in DC is made up of rentals, while 34% of occupied units in Montgomery County, Maryland, are rental units.

“We know that not every family can put solar on their roof, and many lower-income families cannot afford it. Others do not even have the option because they live in an apartment building, and they are renters,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

Thank you for making an impact for your community and the environment with SharePower.

If you have a moment today, please consider multiplying your impact by encouraging a friend or neighbor to register for community solar. We can do more when we work together, and we are continuously grateful for your support.
