We are at a turning point. Across the country, clean energy projects are taking off utilizing the Inflation Reduction Act. Those new projects are already having a major impact on the communities where they are located, and that is worth celebrating.
This week, during Clean Energy Week, we want to reflect on how far we as a country have advanced in our journey toward equitable clean energy that truly serves communities. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, some estimates now indicate that the U.S. may use clean energy for half of its electricity needs within the next two years. Our transition to clean energy is already having a profound impact on energy affordability and community energy resilience while contributing to improved air quality air through reduced carbon dioxide pollution.
Additionally, thanks to purposeful efforts by passionate climate advocates the benefits of this transformative change will not be limited to exclusively high-income households. The availability of equitable clean energy access is no small feat considering that in 2013 solar power was largely inaccessible to low and moderate-income households and as recently as 2017, minority and women-owned businesses were heavily underrepresented in some of the busiest solar markets in the country. We're glad to see those trends turned around.
